Digging up the Truth: 1

It was 2 in the afternoon when I had finally woken up. A few days ago, I would've gasped at the clock and rushed to the bathroom thinking I have wasted my day sleeping. Not today though. Today was different.

It has been 4 days of mourning. Four days of sorrow, grieving and weeping. How do people manage to go through this, I thought. How will I when the person I lost was the most dearest to me? The most loving and caring. My idol. My mother.

For 10 minutes, I did nothing but toss and turn hoping this heartache would go away. In the end, I gave up and walked over to the bathroom. After having washed my face, I checked my phone for any new messages. There were 2 missed calls from my aunt, 1 from my father and an SMS from my aunt that read:

- I have left a box with your housemaid which I've borrowed from your mother, Allah yr7mha, a while ago. Make sure you take it for I'm sure your mother would've wanted you to have it.

The rest of what I've received on my phone were nothing but the usual, SMS's and BBMs from people sending messages of sympathy.

I combed what used to be the hair of a lion. Yes, I'm grieving, but that doesn't mean I should go out looking like a complete mess. After applying some moisturizer onto my face to look somewhat alive, I left my room for some contact with others. Since I've been nothing but quiet or alone these past few days, I felt the need to talk to someone today. My sister. My brother. Anyone. Anyone who understands what I'm going through. Anyone who understands my pain. My heartache.

I  looked around the house to find nobody. That's weird, I thought. Where could've they possibly went?

So I headed to the kitchen hoping someone would be there, and..

Housemaid: "Aisha, I make for you food. I bring it up to your room?'

Me: "No, it's okay. I'm not hungry."

Housemaid: "You have to eat, Awashii."

Me: "Okay, leave it on the dining table. Rose, where is everyone?"

Rose: "Your father and Hamood went outside and Salama take shower."

Me: "Oh okay."

I walked out of the kitchen to the dining table and waited for my food to arrive. I had absolutely no interest in food but Rose's right. I needed to eat. I couldn't remember the last time I had a proper meal. A few minutes later, Rose entered the room carrying my tray. After placing it down in front of me, she left and came back holding a box. I guessed it was the box my aunt texted me about.

Rose: "Madam Hind left this box for you."

I murmured a thank you before she left the room and after taking a few bites of what she had cooked for me, I left the room carrying the box. I headed to my sister's room and found her sitting on the bed playing around with her phone.

Me: "How did you sleep?"

Salama: "Alright, I guess."

Me: "Did you have anything to eat?"

Salama: "Yeah, I did. Had no choice, thanks to Rose. 7lailha."

I had nothing else to say so we both stayed quiet for a while.

Salama: "What's in that box?"

Me: "I don't know. 5alti Hind left it for me saying she burrowed it from mama a while ago."

Salama: "Open it!"

Me: "Uhh, okay.."

Salama jumped out of her bed and sat right next to me as I placed the box on the floor. Knowing the password to every lock my mom owns, I started to unlock it. I then started to slowly open the box. In it were jewelry, letters, birthday cards, and a CD cover that had the words "PLEASE WATCH!" written on the front.

Salama: "We'll watch it on my laptop."

And before I could say anything, she gets up to get her laptop.
